Bilingual Malays

This just happen to me like afew hours ago which I feel like I should share it here. I was having dinner with afew of my friends. me, Dilla, Serina and Julia. We were talking about work, about our family and other stuff too. So behind us there's a group of malay girls who I assumed are working girls as well. They were talking in malay as for us we were mainly talking in English. I do have to emphasized on the fact that we were talking in English. Julia is a malay girl who was born in Texas, raise there and her Husband is from San Francisco. So Her English slang is so American. Thats why we called her 'amor'.

So as we're talking, we noticed that these group of malay girls start talking crap about us on how we all malays who are to proud not to be speaking in malay. One of the girls were saying 

" konon berlagak cakap omputih. konon gempak sangat la. Sume muke kaya celop menumpang kaya bapak bapak tak pun sugar daddy. Handbags tah2 petaling street punye. "

All of us are like ' Did you hear what they said!!'.

Then we were dumb founded and just sit at our seat completely silent. So at that particular moment I was ears dropping on their conversation hoping that they would talk trash about us again.I told myself if they talked about us again, Im going to 'give my all' to them just like how Mariah Carey sing the song. Lols.

Then one of the girl asked her friends about her job interview the other day.

Girl 1 : interview kerja haritu macam mane? Mesti bestkan kalau dapat kerja dekat situ. Company besar, gaji pun mesti besar.

Girl 2 : Oh.. Aku tak dapat keja kat situ 

Girl 1 : Kenapa? Kau tak dapat jawab soalan interview ke?

Girl 2: Ha ah.. 

Girl 1 : Kenapa?

Girl 2: Sebab dia orang interview aku dalam bahase omputih. Aku paham sikit-sikit. nak menjawab tak reti.

At that moment me, Dila, Serina and Julia laugh our ass off. I mean really we were laughing and Julia nearly fell from her chair. The four of us were laughing for the same reason. Because of the girl.

There she was afew minute earlier making jokes about u talking in English and now she didnt do well in her interview because she couldn't speak nor understand English. 

So the girls got up and walked away.

Here's the think I dont understand about some malays.We live in a country with malays, Chinese , indian and other race as well. other race than malay are all bilingual. But malays are so cough up with ' bangga lah dengan bahasa ibunda kita'. Whats wrong on learning new language? Im proud of bahasa melayu. I even tought afew of my English afew malay word myself.

But then again, when malays started to learn to speak and read English, others make jokes about it passed judgement saying that we dont appreciate our mother tongue enough.

My best friend when I was in high school Saheran, she always make fun of me whenever I tried to speak English. She called me " minah London celop". But then she's the one who asked me to teach her how to speak and write in English.

I always see this situation where when one malay trying to speak English, their responds would be 

" fuyoooo... pandai nya cakap omputih. ko berapa lame duduk sane?"

" ko ni tak reti nak berbangga dengan bahasa melayu ke?"

" bagus sangat ke bile ko bercakap dalam bahase omputih?"


Sick and tired of this low life pathetic people.Grow Up please!!
