Book Smart Or Street Smart

Who would you rather? Book smart or Street Smart?

This blog post is based on my personal experience.

As for me, I would prefer to be balance. Books and Street Smart.

Let me break it down to you. Book smart as we all know means you're a bookie, a nerd or a library junkie. That's what they called those group of people back in the day when I was in College. Street smart the the person who learn based on life experience.

I always think that if you study hard, you get better opportunity to enter good school, get good grades, get better jobs and make more money.I also based on the fact that both my parents are PhD holders and doing well for themselves. Earning 5 figures salary monthly to be is successful enough for me.

So I was so determine to be like my parents. I was top student back in high school. I got A's for all my subjects and I was the top 5 student in my school over all. I was pretty proud of myself and I think to myself ' yes! I can do this!'

Through my teenage life, my parents was my hero and my inspiration. Even thought they are books smarts, but they know their ways in life. From my observation, i find out that my parents used a lot off common sense in their daily life.

My dad once said ' all the things you learn from books, you only imply on jobs and life only about 10%.. The rest is  based on your common sense'.

My parent trained me to be balance in life. Books smart and street smart. My Husband I can say that his more towards book smart rather than Street Smart. He is very good in reading and facts. But when it comes to common sense, he needs bit of training from time to time. But his improving. Love him to death though. hahahahaha

But for me, i think that the best way to learn about something is based on experience.
For example, I love to read books. Any books will do. But mostly, I love reading medical journal and also I love reading books about mechanical stuff like how to change oil for your car, how to fix the main switch for your electric supply and such.

So one day my dad decided to put me to a test on changing the oil on his car. Bare in mind that time I was onli 13 years old. So I was so confident that I would nailed it easily. But I was soo wrong. Im thinking to myself ' you know what do to, you know where to put where so its easy to do!'.

But i did it wrong. My dad was pretty pist off at that time as he was afraid that I would fucked up his car. So my dad decided to show me, and teach me the right way to do. Once completed, he asked me to do it again. Guess what, I did it perfectly!

What im trying to say is that, sometimes whatever you learn from books give you the answers your looking for, but sometimes best way to learn something is from your own experience and from mistakes.Thats why they came up with the quote " learn from your mistakes".

I told my dad that its much easier to learn something when your in that situation rather than your reading from books. So you need to balance yourself. Be a books and streets smart at the same time.
